Welcome back to prehistoric times - among wild horses and aurochs herds
Переглядів 24 тис.6 років тому
A similar view arose to prehistoric people while travelling around European plains several thousands years ago. The herds of wild horses and aurochs are grazing side by side. Such a scenery could be seen for the last time by our ancestors a lot of centuries ago, before man exterminated large herbivores in Europe. In a former military area in Milovice, however, the conservationists of European W...

Why don't they just get DNA from all the Aurochs buried over thousands of years in Poland ?

In 1938,Nazi brothers two brothers,Lutz and Heinz Heck recreated them. When Lutz released his back-bred aurochs into a reserve in 1938, he wrote that, “the extinct Auerochs has arisen again as a German wild species in the Third Reich.” Lutz’s aurochs mostly died in the bombing of Berlin at the end of the war, but his brother’s examples in Munich survived, and the siblings’ efforts have been carried into the present under the guise of a much different endeavor known as rewilding - or the recreation of extinct wild landscapes.

Aurochs-like descendants of “Heck cattle” are now present in rewilding preserves in Spain, Croatia, Portugal and the Netherlands.

Unfortunately, these are not real aurochs. They are modern cattle bread to look like aurochs. Still cool though.

There is a stuffed one in a Kyiv museum. It is a tall bull like animal with large horns. The last live one in Ukraine died in 1629. The one shown in the video is not dissimilar to the stuffed one in the museum.

They have the look, but these are not Aurochs, and obviously so. Aurochs were 1.8 metres tall at the shoulder, were much MUCH larger, and were very aggressive indeed. Not sure why anyone would make this false claim. They are not genetically Aurochs. Period.

The legs are too short, as well as the bovine, itself. They still have a ways to go to be authentic aurochs. Nor do they run, nor are they as aggressive as the real thing. Read Ceasar's account of his encounters with them in his 'Commentaries'.

"Aurochs are back!" No, they are *not.* They are *not* aurochs. They are an attempt to replicate aurochs as closely as possible through crossbreeding and breeding back techniques. These methods cannot bring back the original genotype of the species, living individuals only represent a visual approximation to how aurochs are thought to appear.

If they're actually allowed to live naturally with multiple bulls fighting for dominance and breeding rights instead of humans picking out one bull per herd, then they will continue developing into a more authentic auroch body type due to their own selective pressure.
